3 Sex Myths Your Mom Probably Told You

I don’t remember what my exact age was when my mom decided to give me the sex talk. All I remember is how I did my best not run away in embarrassment as she told me all about the vaginas, penises and how kissing would get me pregnant (Oh, you haven’t heard?).

Now that we are grownups, we know our mothers may have been off on a few things. Or maybe she was just trying to scare you! While her intentions were good, I have to debunk a few sex myths she may have warned you about. Thanks anyway Mom.

The Myth: Heavy petting will get you pregnant

You’ve heard that sperm are strong swimmers, but according to your mom they can also stand up and walk right into the vagina. Yup.

The Truth: Heavy petting alone cannot make you get pregnant, but it can definitely lead to sex which can make you pregnant. Be it can be pretty fun, as long as everyone involved is safe, sane, and consensual. Try making things a little more fun by using edible oils and flavored lubricants. And when things start to get hot and heavy, keep it safe with high-quality condoms.

The Myth: Masturbating too much is bad for you

At first, your mom may have told you that you should never masturbate, and if you do bad things will happen. Later, she may have told you that some masturbation is ok, but too much could make you sterile and you should probably focus that sexual energy on your studies. Right.

The Truth: Masturbation is not only completely normal, but it is actually good for you. According to studies, regular masturbation is a great stress reliever and way to relieve frustration. Also, masturbation is an important way to get to know your body and your own sexuality. If you’re new to self-loving, don’t be afraid to explore yourself with a classic rabbit vibrator or a clitoral stimulator.

The Myth: Women are less interested in sex than men

You know you’ve heard it. Men are horny, highly sexual beings and women need to look out for them cause all they ever want is sex. Women just want romance, compliments and gifts. Uh no. I have other needs.

The Truth: Hate to break it to you mom, but sometimes all women want to do is sex too. It seem that men are more interested in sex, but it is probably because their sex organs are less mysterious and hidden than women’s. Also, more often than not, men are taught that sex is about their own pleasure – not the woman’s. To keep both parties happy, try adding a couple’s vibrator into the mix or experiment with an adult toy gift set. It’s great for the holiday season 😉
