Ice-T Schools Us on ‘The Art of Rap’

One of the undisputed kings of rap, Ice-T, gives us a glimpse into the careers of his rap game peers with his new documentary ‘Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap’ premiering in theaters everywhere June 15.

Commonalities and friendships with his subjects allow Ice-T to give us a genuine, candid interviews with some of hip-hop’s greatest lyricists. In the film, Ice-T interviews artists including Nas, Eminem, KRS-One, MC Lyte, Chuck D, and others. Using a list of about fifteen questions, he drills deep into the lives and stories that built the hip-hop world we know and love. As an added bonus, on top of the set of questions, Ice also requests that each interviewee throw out an original freestyle on camera.

Though promotion for the film is mostly word-of-mouth, success seems promising based on anticipation of the performances and true industry stories it will bring to light. And the fun doesn’t stop with the docu-film. There will also be television, DVD and soundtrack legs to ‘Something From Nothing…’ We can’t wait!
