Hello my Hype people 🙂
So one of my favorite events of the year is coming, and I am excited to share this interview with Haitian designer Lily Deziles from our friends at Trinidad Lookbook. Check it out below:
The 2nd Annual Carib Style Week is happening in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and the excitement is too real. In addition to a Caribbean Fashion Pop-Up Experience and a massive showcase at Westfield Broward, there are several dope fusion events; all featuring Caribbean designers. The schedule takes you around Ft. Lauderdale, with the fusion events happening at cool event spaces, night spots and one particularly awesome rooftop pool situation.
Luckily, the schedule also features a slew of sensational designers. Over the next few days, we’re featuring a few of them. Get to know a romantic Haitian/Guadeloupean designer, after the jump…
When it comes to pairing Kreyol style with French tailoring, Haitian-Guadeloupean label Lily Deziles is a sartorial love letter. Floaty, ethereal dresses, and playfully-bright frocks are all part of the brand’s courting. We’re smitten.
Where are you from? What’s your Caribbean heritage?
Originally, Port-au-Prince in Haiti, but I’ve been living in Guadeloupe for the past 13 years.
What’s your design motto?
To just be easy-going and free! I use a lot of cotton; it’s all very fowy with a touch of French style – in terms of
the classic, well-made tailoring – mixed with Kreyol styling.
