What is Slut Walk? You may cringe when you hear the name, but Slut Walk is not what is sounds like. Slut Walk is a call-to-action and global initiative to fight against institutionalized sexism. It is essentially, a protest rally against the rape culture and the patriarchy.
In 2013, the FIU chapter of the National Organization of Women decided that Miami needed its own SlutWalk and have continued the movement ever since. This year, Miami will host its 4th Annual Slut Walk at FIU South Campus on the GC lawns.
HypeGirls is proud to be a part of this year’s Miami Slut Walk. We will have out pop-up tent at the event with pre-made signs, free water and other giveaways from our partners. Make sure you RSVP and share the news. We will see you out there!
Originating in Canada, the SlutWalk movement began as a response to a statement by a representative from the Toronto Police Department; a statement which demonstrated the prevailing rape culture mentality in modern society. When the police representative made a public statement blaming sexual assault on the way women dress, five women decided to fight back.
