President Obama announced today that he now supports same-sex marriage. In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process on the matter as an “evolution” that ultimately led him to his decision, making him the first president to ever go on record in favor of the issue.
“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together;
Although, this statement does cause plenty excitement not only for Gay America but for the entire country, President Obama stressed that this is a “personal position” and that he still supports of the states’ deciding the issue on their own. Does this mean that President Obama will back gay marriage throughout the rest of his campaign or will he steer clear of it?
