Avoid Eating These 4 Energy Draining Foods

With all that we have to do these days, a lot of people feel tired and run down on daily basis. Sometimes it is lack of sleep, but did you ever stop to think that your diet is to blame? Typically, when we need a burst of energy we seek out whatever food is faster, more convenient and tastes the best. These foods are often high in calories and caffeine – the perfect recipe for instant alertness! But even though it may seem like you are getting the fuel you need, you may actually be getting the opposite.

Energy Draining Foods

1. Energy Bars

You got up late, you’re totally drained, have no time to eat or even chug a cup of coffee – so why not grab a healthy energy bar right? Wrong. Many of us are guilty of skipping a meal sometimes, and unfortunately that meal is usually breakfast. On-the-go foods like energy bars offer convenience and instant fuel – or so you think. Studies show that energy bars can actually make you more tired, offer an overdose of sugar and caffeine despite promising nutritional value. Just because contains vitamins and minerals does not mean that it is actually good for you!

2. Super Sugared Breakfast Foods

Any vegan will tell you that sugar and white flour are awful energy drainers. Unfortunately, most people start their days with a sugar-based breakfast. Well, if they get to eat at all that is. When your body consumes a lot of sugar, your blood sugar rises because the carbohydrates get used up quickly. This causes your brain to stop producing orexin – basically your main source for feeling alert.

3. Fried Foods

Greasy and fried foods may taste good, but they are bad for your brain function. Again, fast food is very convenient on the go like energy bars, so many of us are guilty of eating fried food – especially on our lunch breaks. Unfortunately, these foods are high in fat content and will eventually lead to fatigue in the long run, so you may end up with the” itis” in the middle of the afternoon. The fatigue effect is even stronger if you meal of choice is high in fat and low in carbs, so choose wisely.

4. Low-Iron Foods

For women, anemia (low iron levels in the blood) is a common problem and the main cause of fatigue. What most women don’t know is that their diet is the main cause of fatigue in women more than menstruation issues or bone marrow disease. Many women think they are being extra healthy by snacking on foods like carrots, celery and cauliflower, but the reality is these foods are all low-iron veggies. Instead try opting for darker vegetables like kale or spinach that are high in iron. Chickpeas, lentils, chicken, and fish are also healthy high-iron foods that will give your body natural energy.
