The Heart of a Champion: How Winning Takes More Than Skill
Last month my son Nasir and I were lucky enough to get invited to attend the CARS 3 TOUR and get a special sneak peak of Disney Pixar’s CARS3 starring Kerry Washington and Isiah Whitlock Jr. at Bayside Marketplace here in Miami, FL. The event was so much fun! From the previews it is easy to see that this movie is going to be a great for the entire family. The story is all about having the heart of a champion, and how winning takes more than just talent. That being said, I wanted to share this short and inspiring post with you from CARS 3 🙂
It has been said that “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” Though talent is a big piece of the puzzle, ensuring your success is about more than just having the “it” factor. In preparation for the release of Disney’s Cars 3, here are 5 practices to adopt that can help you shine like the star we all know you are!
Learn From Your Elders
The greats weren’t great for no reason. Though they may be retired now, key characteristics of their careers can be applied in a new context that could make you a contender for legendary status.
Stay Humble
Confidence is key, but over confidence can hurt even the most talented people. Being open minded and receptive to those who may not be as high on the totem pole as you are can put things in a perspective you may not have been able to see otherwise.
Know What Your Goals Are
If you don’t define what success means to you early on, you’ll always be chasing the dragon. Set tangible, measurable goals that you can look at throughout your career trajectory that will remind you if you’re on the right path.
Know What Your Price Is
Too often we see great talent get lost in the mix of drama and scandals. Know what you’re fighting for and know the price you’re willing to pay to achieve it. If it ever gets more expensive than that, get out.
Don’t Let Others Drag You Down
All champions have this one in common. If you’re letting your competitors get under your skin at every turn, you’ll never develop the mental fortitude required to attain the success you dream of. Remind yourself of why you’re in the game and let the haters hate.
About CARS 3
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
