New Zealand Singer Lorde Lands 2.5 Million Dollar Publishing Deal
Congratulations Lorde, you are officially royal. Music royal that is, this now seventeen year old singer/songwriter landed herself a 2.5 million dollar publishing deal on her birthday this past Thursday, November 7.
According to sources, Lorde (real name Ella Yellich O’Connor) was the prize in a bidding war for several months between over a half dozen of the music’s top publishing houses, including Universal Music Group, Sony/ATV, Kobalt and Spirit. The winning bid was from Songs Music Publishing, who house includes producer/artists Diplo and The Weeknd.
The final deal will include worldwide publishing right to her debut album, The Love Child, her current album, Pure Heroine, and all her future recordings. We can certainly expect big things from Lorde, both as a songwriter and an artist. She has already been named the youngest singer to be #1 on the Billboard charts in 26 years and her smash hit Royals now on its’ sixth consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100. Being that she is only seventeen years old with two albums and major fame just around the corner, I’d say Song Music got themselves a very sweet deal! Congrat Lorde, you’re da QUEEN B!
