Lady Rappers: Changing The Game or Promoting “Ratchetness”?

Nowadays rap has evolved into so much more than what it began as. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it has gotten better.

We’ve sacrificed lyrics like, “I think it’s time to kill for our women,Time to heal our women, be real to our women, And if we don’t, we’ll have a race of babies, That will hate the ladies, that make the babies…” to “she got a big booty,so I call her big booty”… Need we say more?

Okay, we’ll say more. It’s always been difficult for women to make a name for themselves in the rap industry. But some have managed to keep their clothes on, show their lyrical skills, and still keep a name for themselves.

Rapper, Honey Cocaine

“Back in the day” lady rappers were women you could look up to, want to dress like, sing every lyric to their songs. Now, we have Nicki Minaj. With lyrics such as ” put my p**sy on his sideburns” or “if I had a d**k, I would pull it out and piss on ’em”. Is this what we want our future daughters thinking is “real hip-hop” and trying to imulate?

Rapper, Lil Kim

Do you think artists such as Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, Trina, etc. have changed the game and inspired female artists or are they just simply promoting “ratchetness” ?

Tell us what you think!
