Wonder, Keys and More Perform at Whitney Houston’s Funeral Service

Whitney Houston's FuneralThere were plenty of moving words and performances during Whitney Houston’s funeral service which took place at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.today, February 18.

Alicia Keys thanked Houston for reaching out to young artists. Stevie Wonder blessed attendees with his talent. A tearful R. Kelly sang a rendition of Houston’s ‘I Look to You’. Performances from BeBe Winans and later CeCe Winans left few dry eyes in the worldwide audience .Aretha Franklin, who was set to sing at the funeral, was not able to due to a sudden onset of leg spasms.

Kevin Costner recalled memories of Houston’s nervousness before taking her role in ‘The Bodyguard’ and called her a “sweet miracle”.

Tyler Perry paid homage Houston and the to the “grace that carried her”. He remembered that no matter what struggle or sadness Houston went through, she always praised her Lord for bringing her through.

Clive Davis remembered her beginnings as a young star destined for greatness. Bishop T.D. Jakes told of her presence on the set of her last film, ‘Sparkle’. Music director Ricky Minor told us of his love for Whitney Houston as a true artist and gift. Pastor Marvin Winans delivered a heartfelt and hopeful eulogy.

Cissy Houston‘s touching words to her daughter were “Rest, my baby girl, in peace.” She will take Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, as they both mourn through this tough time. Many speakers reminded Bobbi Kristina that her mother always wanted the best for her and was always so proud to be her mother first and foremost. Bobby Brown was in attendance, but asked to leave shortly after arriving due to an argument with Houston’s family.

Whitney Houston will be laid to rest beside her father at Fairview Cemetary in Westfield, NJ. She died Saturday, February 11 at only 48 years of age.
